First Visit
What to Expect in Physical Therapy
During your first visit, a licensed physical therapist will perform an evaluation and educate you regarding your condition. The therapist will create an individualized physical therapy program based on your physician's orders and the results of your evaluation. Each patient will receive a personalized plan of care which will outline specific functional goals and expectations.
If you are experiencing pain you will be treated with a variety of therapeutic modalities which may include, moist heat, electrical stimulation, ultrasound, manual therapy with soft tissue mobilization and cold therapy. The therapist will also provide you with instructions in proper body positioning to help control your pain symptoms.
The majority of patients will also have some form of therapeutic exercise incorporated into their treatment program which will be performed in our gym. Most patients will also have a home exercise program which will be administered and monitored by your therapist.
After your first visit, your therapist will send a plan of care to your physician based on your evaluation. Performance Rehabilitation utilizes electronic medical record keeping which allows for a high level of privacy and efficient means of communication.
Each session lasts about one hour. If you are being treated for a knee, foot or ankle injury it is beneficial to wear shorts or bring a pair with you.
Performance Rehabilitation is dedicated to providing quality care for our patients and the Sanford community.
